Gabriel's Porkless Burgers (Vegan, Oil Free & Grillable)

Updated: Aug 30, 2018

Growing up in Indiana there was nothing like sitting out at the pool and chowing down on a couple of pork burgers. That is something that has not happened for a few years now that we have adopted a plant based diet. So I decided to change that and came up with a delicious porkless burger recipe for this summer! I hope you enjoy these as much as my family has!

Here's what you will need!

  • 2 cans of black beans (drained & rinsed)

  • 2 cans of white beans (drained & rinsed)

  • 1 cup of cooked brown rice

  • 1 cup of raw quick cooking oats

  • 1/4th cup vital wheat gluten

  • 1/3rd cup maple syrup

  • 2 tbs sage

  • 1 tbs crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp thyme

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1/8th tsp clove

  • 1/8th tsp nutmeg

  • 1/8th tsp cinnamon

  • Stand Mixer

  • Patty Press

Directions:

  1. Add the beans to the stand mixer bowl

  2. Mix with the stand mixer on low-medium speed using the scraper paddle attachment for 1-2 minutes

  3. Add the rest of the ingredients to the beans and mix on low-medium speed for 3-5 minutes

  4. Using mixture form into patties of your desired size

  5. Freeze patties on a baking sheet covered with wax or parchment paper for 8-12 hours

  6. Get your grill very hot (450 F+)

  7. Grill on each side for 3-5 minutes (waiting to flip the first time until the burgers release easily from the grill

Enjoy!

Hi! What amazing WFPB NO recipes. I don't have the wheat gluten. Could I use something else instead? Is the purpose of the wheat gluten to bind? Would some flax eggs do the trick?

Thank you!
